Let us not waste time and get right into it. There are a few concepts to cover and so little time.
What is Calgary acupuncture?
It refers to the insertion of slender and fine needles into the muscles. This is done at different strategic points of the body to help cure specific health complications. The Chinese health experts have taken the liberty to map out these points on the body for a period of over 2,000 years.
According to recent studies, Calgary acupuncture works in several different ways. It may cause the release of endorphins and other pain-relieving chemicals produced by the body or activate some gates in the nervous system to block out pain, relax muscles and last but not least, increase blood flow to the punctured areas.
Uses of acupuncture
Most people in the world are familiar with this form of treatment, mostly for chronic pain. But, in addition to its use in alleviating musculature pain, menopause symptoms, PMS and menstrual pain, it also can be used to treat other conditions, including anxiety and fatigue. Some studies also show a connection between acupuncture, weight control and smoking cessation.
Is acupuncture painful?
Well, there is a little discomfort during the treatment. The needles used for the treatment are fine and are formed from stainless steel. Approximately about 10 needles are fitted in a barrel of the regular needle used for injections. During the treatment, there are two sensations experienced.
First, a tingly sensation on the skin and the second is obtaining the “deqi”. The latter sensation is similar to a mild ache under the skin starting from the acupuncture point. But generally, throughout the treatment, patients are relaxed. If any pain is experienced, adjustments will be made to the needle to ease the pain experienced.
Are the needles sterilized?
In acupuncture, only sterile and disposable needles are used. These are single-use needles.
What if I have a phobia of needles?
Your doctor will proceed to make use of another method that does not include thrusting needles through your skin.
What are custom orthotics?
Custom orthotics are designed to help in restoring the alignment and normal balance of one’s body. It does this by gently and slowly correcting foot abnormalities including supination and excessive pronation. They resemble insoles. They are, however, biochemical appliances customized to correct foot imbalance.
They are designed to work on feet – much like glasses work on eyes. They will, with time, help to reduce the strain and stress in the body by returning your feet to their normal alignment.
Upon prescription of the orthotics, follow-up care is conducted, and this is done after several weeks or years to ensure that the orthotics are working and achieving results as they should be. Most of the follow-up appointments are free for patients already on the custom orthotics in Calgary.
Can it be prescribed to children?
Yes, they can be prescribed to children, as well. Numerous clinics have a growth program available to accommodate the kids.
With that, you should have some basics of what the two concepts are and what to expect from every procedure. Clearly, the two are completely different, right?
